I have been reading a lot about the Jd 755,855and the 955 on this board. Where do these tractors fit in the Jd line up as comapared to the 870,970,and1070?

The '55 series were Hydro models while the '70 series were gear drive. The '70 series were also heavier tractors with larger tires and larger loaders/backhoes. One other difference, the '70 series had separate hydraulic pumps for steering and implements. I think the '55 series was more a mowing/grounds care machine while the '70 series was more aimed more at industrial use. They were both replaced by the 4000 series. ....

Your comparison of the two series is not 100% correct the 55 series in a since had two hydraulic pumps it is just the the steering was pulled off of the hydrostatic charge pump and then the hydraulic pump was for implements only. The main differences between these two tractors is that the 55 series was a framed tracor using a C-channel frame, the 70 series a engine transmission frame, like the 4000's making the tractor heavier. Second the 55 series used a hydrostatic transmission. ....
